Course Description: Have you ever wanted to mentor someone but had no idea where to start? On August 28th we will begin a six-week Faith Community Institute class on the basics of Christian mentoring. Christian mentoring is a tool that God can use to see men and women grow in their walk with Christ and grow in their spiritual maturity. Helping someone else grow obeys the great commission in Matthew 28:18-20 and it can also bring both the mentor and the one being mentored great joy.

Mentoring is a topic that appears to be rewarding yet also very daunting to those who have never participated in that kind of relationship. Thankfully, the Scripture is clear on the subject of teaching others, and it is also a sufficient source of knowledge for us on the topic of discipleship. The Bible is filled with commands and principles associated with mentoring and it also gives us multiple examples of godly mentors.

This class is for both those who want to improve in their ability to mentor others and those who are wanting to be mentored themselves. In our time together, we will answer many questions regarding the subject including the following:

  • How do I find someone to mentor and what kind of person should I be looking for?
  • How can I find someone to mentor me?
  • What key passages should a mentor always have ready?
  • Who are some great examples of mentors in the Bible?
  • When I meet with someone for mentorship, what should our time consist of?
  • How often should I meet with the person I’m mentoring?
  • How can I continue to grow and learn as a mentor?
  • What should I do when mentoring is not going well?
  • What are some good resources I can read to learn more about mentoring?
  • How should I use the Bible in mentoring?
  • What should I do if there’s a question that I don’t know the answer to?

We would love to have you join us for this class. If you have any questions, feel free to email Pastor Ross Reeder at rreeder@faithlafayette.org.
