Class time: 6:30-8:00 p.m. (dates listed below)
Course description: What does it mean to know and walk with God? In this course, we will seek to grow in beholding God as well as learn how beholding God relates to our worship, evangelism, Christian service, and how we seek God.
Week 1- Knowing God and Worshipping Him
This first week, we will discuss the need and purpose of the class and what the sessions will looks like. Then, we'll dive into week 1 with a biography of Charles Spurgeon. The lecture will lay down some foundations on what we mean when we are talking about knowing God as well as how God revealed Himself to us. We will then seek to take those foundations and show how our personal knowledge of God affects both the way we worship God and our desire to do so. We'll then watch about a 10-minute panel discussion. Then we'll open it up to class discussion.
Week 2- Beholding God and Evangelism
This week the biography is on Daniel Rowland. In the lecture, we’ll talk about how our understanding and belief of who God is revealed through his Word in the person of Jesus Christ affects both the way that we evangelize and our desire to do so.
Week 3- Beholding God and our Christian Service
This week the biography is on Amy Carmichael. In this lecture, we’ll continue to build upon the foundations of what it means to know God and see how that then effects the way that we serve those around us.
Week 4- Dangers to Beholding God
This week the biography is on Charles Finney. In this lecture, we want to talk about the two significant dangers of pragmatism and idolatry that will hinder us in getting to know God. We want to make sure that the God we are worshiping is the God of the Bible and therefore we must have a view of God that comes from the Word of God.
Week 5- Seeking the God we are Beholding
This week the biography is on Jonathan Edwards. In this lecture, we want to show that Biblical knowledge of God is not enough. We want to draw near to the presence of God Himself. We want to experientially see and delight in the God who created and loves us more than we can ever know.
