From our beginning over 25 years ago, we have been serving families by partnering with them in the education of their children. Our school has grown tremendously since those first years, but our commitment and mission have remained the same. You can hear two of our families share their FCS Stories about how Faith has impacted them. It’s our privilege to serve hundreds of families every year, and we hope hearing some of our stories may inspire your own.
After years of praying and planning, the membership of Faith Church started Faith Christian School in 1997. The school committee, Pastor Bill Goode, Pastor Steve Viars, Dr. Dan Wickert, and Mr. Dale Davidson, hired Mr. Bob Leffew as school administrator. Mr. Leffew and his wife, Joan, came to FCS with a 21-year history in Christian school administration.
The school opened its first year with 48 students in grades 9-12. Seventh and eighth grades were added in our second year, raising the student population to 81. The K3-6th grades were added during our fourth year, bringing the total student enrollment to 314.
In August of 2001, Kossuth Street Baptist Church’s Highland Christian School merged with Faith Christian School to create a student body of 491 students. This merger demonstrated love and unity between these two schools, and resulted in a 20,000 sq. ft. addition built by Faith. Over the next decade the school continued to grow with the addition of a Preschool in the Faith East Community Center, and Mr. Scott Grass, one of the original teachers at Faith in 1997, assumed the position of Superintendent in 2010.
FCS has since grown in its programs to include accreditation in ACSI and membership in the IHSAA. The Choice Scholarship program that began in 2012 has allowed Faith to continue to not only grow in enrollment, but also in the diversity of its student body. Today the student body is representative of the economic and ethnic diversity of the surrounding community.
An expansion in 2019 saw the completion of new classrooms, a dedicated band room, enhanced building security, and an expanded Academic Resources room. A new building addition was begun in 2023 with an anticipated finish in time for Fall 2024. These additional classrooms, science lab, and athletic training space will allow us to meet the growing demand for Christian education in our community. Today, over 760 K-12 students from 100 different local churches attend FCS. The Lord has continued to bless our school by allowing consistent student growth and exceptional faculty, staff, and church leadership who support the school by continuously challenging the school body to grow in love for God and others.
